The Province of Manitoba has announced the jointly funded Canada-Manitoba Job Grant. The grant funds training for employees to “help Manitobans gain the skills they need to fill available jobs and to help employers develop the skills of their existing workers to meet the requirements of their present job, or to move into a better job.”

Eligible employers can apply for up to $10,000 per employee, to a maximum total funding of $100,000.

Eligible employers are:

  • Private employers
  • Non-profit organizations
  • Industry associations, sector councils, groups of employers
  • Union halls
  • First Nations
  • Municipal governments

Eligible “small companies” (100 or less employees) can apply for up to 75% of eligible training costs, while larger companies of 101 or more employees can apply for up to 50% of eligible training costs. No matter the size of the company, the grant is subject to a maximum of $10,000 per employee, and $100,000 per company.

Training costs eligible for funding are tuition fees or fees charged by the training provider, mandatory student fees, textbooks and required materials, and examination fees. If employees need to travel more than 100 kilometres to partake in the training due to it being unavailable in their area or online, travel costs may be covered as well. Training must be provided by an entity outside of your corporation, this includes: post-secondary institutions, private vocational institutions, sector councils or industry associations, union halls, and equipment manufacturers or private trainers with the appropriate curriculum, knowledge, and equipment or materials required for training.

Finally, training must take place between April 1, 2021 and March 15, 2022 (even if it was paid for on or prior to March 31, 2021).

This grant is paid through reimbursement, meaning the employer must submit to the Province of Manitoba a training plan report, a training evaluation, and proof of payment of eligible training costs to be reimbursed by the Province.

Funding is provided on a first come, first served basis, so apply soon!
